EPA Plans to Stop Ongoing Asbestos Clean-Up

The Environmental Protection Agency has raised concerns in Montana as they plan to stop the ongoing clean-up of Montana’s contaminated asbestos sites. Montana is the home to W.R. Grace and the Company’s infamous vermiculite mine in the town of Libby. The vermiculite mineral that was mined was heavily contaminated with asbestos. Asbestos subsequently plagued the region and took the life of many Montana residents by mesothelioma, lung cancer, or other asbestosis related diseases.

The EPA claims that levels of asbestos have been reduced to levels consistent with other cities or regions but this will do little to quell the concerns of citizens who understand that as the community changes the dangers of disrupting asbestos fibers will be renewed.
