FDA Cracks Down On Alternative Cancer Treatments That Make Bogus Claims

Many mesothelioma patients find themselves using alternative treatments either as a last resort or in conjunction with their traditional care regimens. The FDA has just issued warning letters to fourteen companies which produce products that claim to prevent, diagnose, treat, mitigate or cure cancer. While the letter was sent to fourteen companies, it covered 65 products. To see a complete list of the companies and products that received warning letters click here.

The Director of the FDA’s Office of Enforcement and Import Operations, Douglas Stern stated, “We encourage people to remain vigilant whether online or in a store, and avoid purchasing products marketed to treat cancer without any proof they will work,” Mr. Stern urged that, “Patients should consult a health care professional about proper prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer.”

Often times because the typical prognosis for mesothelioma is bleak, companies take advantage of those searching for medical miracles. When there aren’t any other medical options, people are more likely to take chances or fall for fraudulent claims of a cure. It is always important to consult an actual medical professional before engaging in any alternative therapies to make sure that there won’t be any dangerous side effects or any problems in mixing those alternatives with your current treatment regimen.
